What have we learned?

Thank you to everyone who wished me well over the weekend. I had a very nice, relaxing couple of days.

I'm sure most of you saw this coming. I'm done. I haven't checked karmabites1's blog since Friday afternoon, and I don't plan on going back any time soon. I had no idea how much energy I was using checking that thing multiple times a day and getting frustrated over it.

Nothing said over there, by her or her commenters, means much of anything to me. It took stepping back from it to realize that. Nothing said over there will change what kind of a newscaster I think Olbermann is. It won't keep me from watching Countdown and enjoying it. It won't keep me from listening to The Big Show and enjoying it.

I've always wondered why the Olbermann Watch regulars spent so much time and energy on someone they can't stand, and I was - in a sense - doing the same thing. That's not to say I understand them any better. If anything, I'm more confused about it.

Anyway, I'm closing up shop. I'll leave this post open for comments for a while, then I'm locking it up.

As for what I've learned - do not engage the crazies.

That's too bad, Raton, but understandable. I think someone should pick up where you left off in terms of allowing people to come together and discuss what they think of the "affair."

Much thanks to you for starting this, though.

nanananaheyheyhey, how does it feel being an asshole? Do you really think "you win" just because you're more successful at maintaining your hateful obsession than Rat is at trying to combat it with something that questions all your hatred?

Rat, I can't really blame you. I find it terribly sad that the people on the side of good always tire of dealing with the obsessed nutcases before the obsessed nutcases tire of their obsessions, but in a way, it's a sign of mental health that you refuse to be caught up in this maelstrom any longer.

I appreciate what you provided, though, for the time you did. And I feel the same as you: not a bit of this nonsense has changed my opinion of Keith Olbermann one bit, except maybe to increase my admiration for him in light of the amazing amount of hate and absurdity he has to put up with merely for speaking truths certain people don't want to hear.

It takes real courage to bear up under that much hatred and come out smiling. But he does. And I know I'm the better for it.

I hope you continue to watch him with as much enjoyment as I do.

Caroline...I invite you to come visit my blog, "For This Comic Relief Much Thanks," tomorrow. Now that I see Raton is closing this one, I believe it's time to have a little open session on my blog. Partly as a "thank you" to Raton for helping to drive traffic to mine.

And when I do, I will moderate comments, so the jerks will not have a place on my forum.

Thank you and farewell. As much as I agree with your reasons to shut down this blog, I will miss you. Maybe we'll meet again under happier circumstances. You've done good work here and there are other places for you to use your talents. In the meantime, all the best to you.

Gracias, Raton.

I, too, have spent too much time watching the coven stir the pot. I appreciate your good example.

On a final note, Ms. Bites headlines her blog with a quote from Shakspeare, as we all know. Apropos the gals on that other site, another quote, also from the
Swan of Avon, comes to mind:
"Such tricks hath strong imagination"

Thanks for this service, Raton. I hope our friend Karma will follow your example, but I don't expect it.

I'm also sorry to see the lone voice of reason in this matter shutting down, but I totally understand your reasons, and I also agree that Karma would be wise to do the same thing. Thanks for your fine work.

But isn't comment moderation censorship?

Dear Rat,

Thanks. It's been fun. At least we are a fun group and we can laugh at ourselves.

I just hope that KB follows -- shutting her blog down.

She gets nuttier by the day & she seems to be attacking him more.

Between the tacky tie art & her comments in large bold lettering ... On our night together ...

Gag me. LOL.

But I agree with you on Olbermann Watch -- half of that is written before & nobody what KO does or doesn't do .... they will attack him.

And I agree if they hate KO so much -- watch bill-o. We don't care!
